I used to believe that the second generation of the Ford Gt was the most beautiful car ever produced. There was something about it that always played with my imagination. But lately I have been looking at the Lightweight E-Types (because I want a series 3 roadster) and my god are they pretty!! I had no idea.
My favorite color combo
Now I understand why Enzo said what he did about the E-Type. I don’t believe that the standard model was that pretty. I mean it is gorgeous, but “the most beautiful car ever made” seemed a bit much. But I get it now. I totally get it. As a stock car the E-Type is pretty, but as a Lightweight and Low Drag, it is the best looking car ever made making the Ford GT Second.
Lightweight
I love the Le Mans lights on the Low Drag
That’s how all the coupes should have been. Stupid lift back BS
That looks like the most visceral driving interior. I want it!

The E-Type is a pretty car, but frankly I think the 2000GT is one of the most beautiful cars ever made.

Perhaps a case of the knockoff improving upon the original?

Even more valuable than the E-Type.

Except when the lights are up. Looks a little awkward.

100% agree. Those wing mirrors and the shape of the rear windows completes the package.

What? It has so much character with the lights up! Like Johnny 5 from short circuit.

IMHO.
I’ve never loved the look of the E-Type, I’ve always found them a tad..gapey?And the hood is a bit too long. Beauty is in the eye of the beholder though.
Or maybe this

I never thought of the GT as beautiful...more brutally handsome, to quote the Eagles.

The 2005-2006 Ford GT is the first generation Ford GT. The vehicle upon which its design drew inspiration was a race car and not a production vehicle.

Never did like the DB4 GT Zagato. Always looked a little stubby. But yes looks are all subjective, which is a sad assessment on current automotive trends. Apparently the masses want bland and similar.
That 250 is lovely though.

They are so pretty. Too bad there are so few and they cost so much. I have only seen 2 in person. Kids someday will never see them outside of a museum. I want to DD and track an original lightweight

Oh yeah, I love technical pedantry. It makes life so much more fun. If they had kept the roof height at 40 inches could it have been a GT40?
Should it have been the GT44?

Not really, pedestrian safety regulations really tie designers’ hands on the hoodline and rollover regulations tie their hands on the pillars making it very, very difficult to design a pretty car and even more difficult to design a decent looking car that doesn’t look like all the rest. Like the silly rubber bumpers of the early 80s this will pass when we get more clever.

Yeah I know.... But people still buy the crap. Maybe if Trump gets rid of the EPA, he can get rid of NHTSA. HA HA HA

They had wanted to call the concept car the GT40, but licensing issues with the current GT40 rights holder prevented that. Even still, it would be a stretch considering it was never a production car

Ah, stupid licensing. This is why GM hold the licences for all their cars.... Even Hummer... I mean it makes sense since we still service them all.
Yeah, a stretch, but not the biggest stretch made by a company.

Maybe he can get rid of the NHTSA and leave the EPA be.. I’m not too bothered if people exercise their right to risk themselves but they have no right to risk everyone else.
And pedestrians can just not walk out in front of cars.. I consider both of the following stunning but there’s a reason the newer one is missing that low-slung hoodline.

In keeping with your pedantry, they did make a few road car GT40s to meet homologation requirements.

The Jag, on the other hand, is straight up sex. And the lightweight is like the special sex you only get from your wife on your birthday.

Seriously I think most regulatory bodies need to be shut down, reorganized, simplified, and made better. Why have the EPA and CARB?! Why must we pander to the lowest common denominator? That’s called survival of the fittest. I know not to run out into traffic or walk in front of a car. Personally I would rather get hit lower and go over the car than to be hit higher and go under or whatever.

They didn’t make enough though did they? What series has a 7-car homologation requirement? Or was that in-total with the number of Mark I and Mark II chassis already made?

Only 7 MK III GT40s were built, but those weren’t race cars. It’s hard to say exactly how many GT40 roadcars were built, but according to Sotheby’s and R&T they built 31 MKI road cars. The 7 car run of MKIIIs never raced and don’t count toward the homologation total afaik. I’m not sure about the MKIV.

I’d really like to be able to speak about that sort of sex from experience, and only slightly less than I’d like to drive that E Type.

I think for every day I’ll take the sex, but as a one-off experience I’ll take the car. I say that because I know I don’t fit well in E-Types, but could suck it up for a drive.

Its a nice looking car in the classical style. But Enzo Ferrari hasn’t seen some of the design concepts that came about for some later cars. IMO The Caterham is also a nice looking car in the classical style.

I totally agree. But while Caterhams are a beautiful design that is only truly from and engineering stand point. They are not though classically pretty. A schematic of a Caterham would be pleasing to the eye, but something like an E-Type against the backdrop of the alps or Monaco would be breath taking.

I don’t want my breath taken away though. I want my oxygen inside my body. :P
Most Beautiful Car Ever Made (for his time) I agree with that. But I’ve seen many designs to be singular on one that stands above all others.

HA, so punny.
I’ll concede that, but only that the Eagle vehicles are now that most beautiful cars made in our time.
